Check your MoT Date

If you are unsure if your car has an up to date or valid MoT, enter your registration number on the government MoT website.

It’s good practice to get your vehicle MoT’d before its due date to allow for any necessary work to be undertaken. The first step is to find out when your MoT is due. Here is some information that might help.

Let TnS Autos Middlewich take the anxiety and stress out of an MoT for you. We will keep you informed about your vehicles pass or failure and any subsequent costs to ensure a retest is successfully undertaken. No work is undertaken without your authority and we will keep you informed about such things as brake pad wear, tyre wear etc.

Call us on 01606 249181 to book an appointment or call in to discuss your MoT at Unit 16, Kings Street Industrial Estate, Middlewich, CW10 9LF.

If you’re stopped by the police and asked for a copy of your valid MOT, not being able to show one can have serious consequences. Whilst you may be let off with a warning, you could come away with a hefty fine – the penalty for no MOT can be up to £1,000.

The simple answer is, no. If your vehicle is more than three years old, you can’t drive without an MOT unless you’re on the way to the garage for your pre-booked MOT appointment.

In most cases, as soon as your MOT expires, your insurance will no longer be valid. So if you have an accident, your car or van won’t be covered by your insurance provider and you’ll have to pay for repairs yourself – or potentially have your van written off. If the accident was your fault, you’ll also have to pay for the damage caused to any other vehicles involved, which could be very expensive. And, because it’s also illegal to drive without valid insurance, if you’re caught, you can face an unlimited fine or even disqualification from driving, plus 6 to 8 penalty points.

Your car or van requires an MoT once it is more than 3 years old.

Bring your appointment letter, vehicle registration document or log book (V5C) and if you have one, your previous MOT certificate.

All the important parts of your car or van will be tested to make sure they meet the legal standard, including the:

  • Engine
  • Gearbox
  • Clutch
  • Brakes
  • Tyres
  • Lights
  • Seat belts
